Kogarashi Katana (T10 Steel with Genuine “Flame” Hamon)

The kogarashi is the first cold wind of late November: the one that strips the last leaves from the lime trees and announces kotatsu season. The term, already rare in modern speech, survives in the tales of the rural prefectures. The Kogarashi Katana captures this quality of a cutting winter breath, in deliberate contrast with its most remarkable decorative element: a flame hamon.

The T10 steel blade (60-62 HRC hardness, nagasa of roughly 70 cm) bears a genuine "Flame" hamon: a particularly irregular tempering line, with alternating high and low peaks like candle flames stirred by the wind. One of the most expressive variants of the art of differential hardening.

The mounting stages the cold-fire paradox: steel-grey ito over samegawa, a patinated iron tsuba with a symmetrical flame motif, a saya lacquered in smoke grey with red flashes in the folds of the lacquer (a flame glimpsed in the winter dark), and a scarlet sageo. Burnished copper habaki.
