The blade in detail
Every piece is unique, hand-forged
Description
Akane is an intense red dye extracted from the root of the plant of the same name (Rubia argyi, Japanese madder). It is one of the oldest natural dyes in the Japanese textile tradition, used to color the kimono of miko dancers in Shinto shrines. The Akane Katana captures this quality of deep mineral red.
The T10 steel blade (60-62 HRC hardness, nagasa of roughly 70 cm) bears a genuine hamon. The tsuka is wrapped over genuine ray skin (authentic samegawa) beneath the ito wrapping.
The mounting embraces akane red: madder-red ito over authentic samegawa, a patinated bronze tsuba with a madder-leaf motif, a saya lacquered in deep red with coppery undertones, and a scarlet sageo. Burnished copper habaki.
A replica for those who decorate with warm palettes, a decorative piece for rooms with neutral furnishings where the red can draw the eye, or a gift for lovers of traditional weaving and natural dyes. A katana that brings the depth of color into your home.
