Maizuru Kodachi Wakizashi (Damascus Steel)

In Japanese, Maizuru means "dancing crane", an image that evokes elegance, symmetry and aerial movement. The Maizuru Wakizashi bears this name because its Damascus steel blade reveals patterns reminiscent of the rippled feathers of Japan's sacred bird.

Damascus steel, obtained by layering hundreds of metal sheets, reveals a fluid, wavy pattern in the light: every blade is unique because no pattern ever repeats exactly. The roughly 50 cm nagasa and hardness of around 58-60 HRC offer a balance between aesthetics and performance.

The handle is finished with great care: cream-colored cotton ito over genuine ray skin samegawa, traditional bamboo mekugi, and a chiseled copper-alloy tsuba with a feather motif. The saya is lacquered in an ivory tone with a matching sageo, a direct reference to the white plumage of the tancho, the great red-crowned crane.
