The blade in detail
Every piece is unique, hand-forged
Description
In the samurai code, the katana was the weapon of the battlefield. The wakizashi, on the other hand, always stayed at one's side: at home, during visits, in moments of intimacy. The Tamana Wakizashi embodies this role of companion blade — secondary in size but central in meaning.
Forged in T10 steel with a genuine hamon obtained through differential hardening (not chemical etching), this roughly 50 cm blade displays the wavy line marking the hardness difference between the edge (62-64 HRC) and the spine (40 HRC). T10, a high-carbon steel with added tungsten, is one of the most sought-after materials for high-end replicas.
The mounting follows the Japanese canon: a tsuka wrapped in hand-braided silk ito over authentic samegawa, an iron tsuba worked with stylized plant motifs, and a black lacquered wooden scabbard with a glossy finish. The dark horn koiguchi and brass habaki add the finishing details of a complete mounting.
Ideal as the companion to a katana to recreate the traditional daisho, as a standalone piece for those who prefer more manageable dimensions, as a gift for iaido and tameshigiri enthusiasts, or displayed on a horizontal stand in a study or living room. The elegance of the wakizashi lies in its measure.
