The blade in detail
Every piece is unique, hand-forged
Description
Sango — coral — has a distinguished history in Japan: red Mediterranean coral arrived via China along the maritime Silk Road routes and was used for the jewelry of Heian-era ladies. The local variety, in pink-orange tones, came from the waters of Kochi (Shikoku) and was carved into hair ornaments. The Sango Katana captures this precious marine quality.
The T10 steel blade (60-62 HRC hardness, nagasa of roughly 70 cm) bears a genuine hamon. The tsuka is wrapped over genuine ray skin (authentic samegawa), a direct reference to the marine world from which coral also comes.
The mounting adopts the pink coral palette: coral-pink ito over authentic samegawa, a chiseled bronze tsuba with a coral-branch motif (branched structure), a saya lacquered in deep pink with coppery undertones, and a salmon-colored sageo. Coppered habaki.
A replica for those who decorate with warm marine palettes, a decorative piece for rooms with aquatic touches, or a gift for lovers of historical jewelry or anyone who has visited Kochi. A katana that carries the warmth of Japan's tropical waters.
