The blade in detail
Every piece is unique, hand-forged
Description
The raikiri, literally "lightning cutter", is one of the most celebrated blades in Japanese history: according to folklore, Tachibana Dōsetsu (1513-1585), a general of the Otomo clan, struck with it the lightning bolt that threatened to kill him during a downpour, saving his own life. The Raikiri Katana takes its name from this legendary blade.
The Damascus steel blade with its genuine hamon displays a double signature of craftsmanship: the Damascus layers beneath the surface and the wavy line of differential hardening above. An effect that truly recalls lightning crossing the sky. Nagasa of roughly 70 cm, 58-60 HRC hardness.
The mounting carries the lightning theme through: navy blue ito over samegawa, a dark alloy tsuba with a stylized lightning motif (triple zig-zag), a black lacquered saya with bright blue flashes, and a lead-grey sageo. Patinated silver habaki.
A replica for fans of samurai history (the Otomo and Mōri clans are central to the Sengoku historical cycles), a decorative piece for rooms with dramatic lighting, or a gift for those who favor replicas rooted in legend. A katana that carries a true historical anecdote within it.
