The blade in detail
Every piece is unique, hand-forged
Description
The counterpart of the yuunagi, the asanagi is the morning calm of the sea: the moment before the daytime breezes rise, when the sea remains smooth as a sheet of glass and the sun begins to light its surface. The two words are often paired in haiku poetry to mark the two special moments of the day. The Asanagi Katana captures this quality of morning light on the water.
The 1095 carbon steel blade (62-64 HRC hardness, nagasa of roughly 70 cm) is finished with a mirror polish that returns very light white-blue shades, like the first light on the morning sea.
The mounting adopts dawn tones: pale blue ito over light samegawa, a light alloy tsuba with a rising-sun-on-the-horizon motif, a saya lacquered in pearl white with blue undertones, and an antique-pink sageo. Patinated silver habaki.
A companion piece to the Yuunagi Katana (for those who wish to pair the two moments of the day), a decorative piece for rooms with large east-facing windows, or a gift for morning yoga practitioners and lovers of luminous palettes. A katana that brings the first light on the ocean into your home.
