Raiden Katana (Damascus Steel)

Raiden is the kami of thunder in Shinto mythology, depicted as a blue- or red-skinned demon rolling his drums across the sky during summer storms. His statue appears in numerous temples across Japan, including the famous Sensoji in Asakusa, where visitors pass beneath his threatening bulk to enter the sacred precinct.
