The blade in detail
Every piece is unique, hand-forged
Description
Raiden is the kami of thunder in Shinto mythology, depicted as a blue- or red-skinned demon rolling his drums across the sky during summer storms. His statue appears in numerous temples across Japan, including the famous Sensoji in Asakusa, where visitors pass beneath his threatening bulk to enter the sacred precinct. The Raiden Katana pays tribute to this thundering figure.
The blade's Damascus steel (nagasa of roughly 70 cm, 58-60 HRC hardness) displays a pattern reminiscent of the resonant surfaces of taiko drums: overlapping, gently undulating layers that reflect the light in different ways. Traditional polishing.
The mounting embraces the thunder palette: electric blue ito over dark samegawa, a patinated iron tsuba with a drum motif surrounded by lightning bolts, a saya lacquered in anthracite black with dark blue undertones, and a deep blue sageo. Burnished silver habaki.
A replica for those who favor mythological themes, a decorative piece for rooms with powerful lighting, or a gift for anyone who has visited the Sensoji in Asakusa. A katana that brings the sound of a ceremonial drum into your home.
