The blade in detail
Every piece is unique, hand-forged
Description
The tachibana is the Japanese bitter orange, a citrus native to the archipelago, distinct from the mikan (mandarin) and the yuzu. Its leaves and fruits decorate the crests (mon) of numerous samurai families, including the Tachibana clan of Kyushu. It is also cited in the Kojiki as one of the first consecrated fruits. The Tachibana Katana pays tribute to this clan-and-nature heritage.
The T10 steel blade (60-62 HRC hardness, nagasa of roughly 70 cm) bears a genuine hamon. The tsuka is wrapped over genuine ray skin (authentic samegawa).
The mounting adopts the palette of the autumn citrus: burnt-orange ito over authentic samegawa, a chiseled bronze tsuba with a tachibana fruit motif (spherical, with a small crown of leaves), a saya lacquered in dark orange with green undertones (the leaves), and a mustard-colored sageo. Burnished gold habaki.
A replica for those who know samurai heraldry or have visited Kyushu (land of the Tachibana), a decorative piece for rooms with a warm autumn palette, or a gift for students of the Kojiki and collectors of native Japanese plants. A katana that carries a clan emblem within it.
