The blade in detail
Every piece is unique, hand-forged
Description
Beni is a brilliant vermilion red derived from the petals of the safflower (Carthamus tinctorius). It was considered one of the most precious colors in traditional Japanese cosmetics: benibana was applied to ladies' lips as a mark of elegance, especially during the Edo period. The Beni Katana captures this quality of luminous, applied red.
The T10 steel blade (60-62 HRC hardness, nagasa of roughly 70 cm) bears a genuine wavy hamon reminiscent of the soft line of a painted lip. Deep mirror polish.
The mounting adopts the safflower palette: bright red ito over light samegawa, a chiseled bronze tsuba with a five-petal safflower motif, a saya lacquered in scarlet red with antique-pink glints, and a salmon-colored sageo. Rose-gold habaki.
A replica for those who decorate with bold color palettes, a decorative piece for rooms or display cases where a stroke of red can accentuate the whole, or a gift for lovers of traditional cosmetics and the Edo period. A katana with the color of lips painted by an ukiyo-e master.
